What is evergreen content?
Evergreen content is content that is timeless or doesn’t go out of date. This means that it is always relevant to your audience regardless of new trends happening in the world.
When it comes to evergreen content there isn’t a set length of time that it will be relevant, so as long as your blog post can be linked to and gain traffic long after you hit publish then it is considered evergreen.
But, it isn’t just about the content that you write, it is the specific topics you choose to write about.
This means you have to take the time to figure out what topics people are searching for and then use that topic to write your blog content.
One major example of an evergreen content topic would be “how to lose weight.” This is something people are constantly searching for online.
Even though the trends around losing weight can change, this is an evergreen content topic that will always be relevant.
Now, your evergreen content for this topic could include your method for losing weight. The content would be specific to YOU and YOUR experiences while the topic is more universal.
But, the thing to keep in mind is that it is evergreen which means it will always be relevant.
Why is evergreen content important?
When you have evergreen content you don’t have to create as much content for your blog because you aren’t writing about trendy topics or things that are happening in the news.
This means you can continue to get blog traffic organically because people will be finding your content in search engines.
For example, I wrote a blog post 7 years ago on my blog, Frugal Fanatic, that still gets traffic today because it is about baby showers.
People are always searching for information on baby showers so I get a lot of organic traffic to those posts. Plus, I took the time to look up some keywords that I knew were being searched for online.
When you write evergreen content you are playing the long game for your blog. It sets the foundation for future traffic and growth.
